La Mirada Kiwanis Annual Duck Race Nets Over $8,800

Sponsors and prize winners for the annual "Going Quackers for Kids"were recognized at the weekly Kiwanis meeting at the Holiday Inn in La Mirada.

At its regular Wednesday morning meeting, the La Mirada Kiwanis recognized sponsors and awarded rebates to sales team for the annual “Going Quackers for Kids” Duck Race held at Splash! After all expenses were deducted, the Kiwanis netted over $8,800 for local clubs and charities.

The annual event raises funds by soliciting sponsorships, donated prizes, and most of all by selling ducks; the ducks are put into the floating river at Splash! for a “race” with the grand prize and first through eight place awarded monetary prizes.

Over 5,306 Ducks took the plunge this year with the $2,500 grand prize going to Lourdes Vargas, first place, $1,000, Work Out World; second place, $250, Jesse Urquidi; third place $250 the Tasse Family, fourth place, $100 Amy Martinez; fifth place, $100, Maribell Herbert; sixth place, $100, Danny Hoo, seventh place $100, Anthony Viele, eighth place, $100 La Mirada Blog.

Sponsors included two groups, the “Nut Quacker”  and the “Duck Call” sponsors.  The Nut Quacker sponsors included the Bell Gardens Police Officers Association,
