The standoff still continues on Bright Avenue in Whittier some seven hours after it began.
Residents living in the apartment complex where the standoff is taking place have been evacuated.
Members of the Whittier Police Department are still on the scene as well as members of a SWAT team.
The name of the suspect and hostage have not been made public.

Hews Media Group-Community Newspaper can confirm that members of the Whittier Police Department have responded to an apartment complex on Bright Avenue, near the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Greenleaf Avenue where a hostage situation is taking place.
A spokesperson for the Whittier PD said that a male and female are involved in the situation and that officers have been deployed to the area.
Streets in the immediate area have been closed down.
