Staff Report

Members of the Rotary Club of La Mirada have provided 36 complete Easter dinners to the Good Sam Pantry at Beatitudes of Our Lord church in La Mirada.

Rotarians donated some $1,000 in hams, canned goods and other food items to the Good Sam Pantry.  Rotarians purchased the supplies using club funds and with the support of the Walmart Neighborhood Market, located at Imperial Highway and La Mirada Boulevard in the Crossroads Shopping Center, on March 22. The food was distributed to needy families later that afternoon by volunteers at the Good Sam Pantry.

As part of its Food for Families project, La Mirada Rotary provided a similar amount of meals to the Good Sam Food Pantry prior to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

In recent months, La Mirada Rotary has also been actively conducting a number of other service projects in the community.

Rotarians purchased $750 worth of turkey dinners in November from Polly’s Pies located at Beach Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue in La Mirada.  The food was served by youth volunteers to hundreds of local residents at the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at Foster Road Elementary School.

A Holiday Shopping Spree for needy children was sponsored by the Rotary Club in December at Marshalls in La Mirada.  Rotarians worked in conjunction with local elementary schools to identify families in the community who needed assistance during the holidays.  The children, assisted by adult volunteers, selected needed clothing items from lists provided by their parents.

“Rotary has been very active in La Mirada for more than 50 years,” says club president Zurich Lewis.  “Rotary has truly made an impact in our community, and we plan to increase our level of activity in the future.”

“Rotary is made up 1.2 million business and community leaders who come together to make a positive change in their communities,” adds Lewis.  “Our many different occupations and cultural backgrounds give us a unique perspective on life, and our shared passion for service helps us accomplish remarkable things.”

Rotary Club of La Mirada assists with a variety of community service projects throughout the year.  The group meets on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. at the Sizzler  Restaurant, 15252 Rosecrans Avenue in La Mirada.
