Olympic Gold Medal Swimmer Cullen Jones Visits Splash! La Mirada

Olympic gold medalist swimmer Cullen Jones visited Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center Tuesday for a Speedo USA photo shoot and to sign autographs for fans.

The professional swimmer, who currently has his sights set on the upcoming FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain, serves as the ambassador for the USA Swimming Foundation’s “Make a Splash” initiative and is sponsored by Speedo USA.

The “Make a Splash” initiative is designed to promote water safety and educate parents, kids and communities about the importance of learning to swim. Jones was motivated to serve as the spokesman for the initiative after his own childhood experience nearly drowning at the age of five at a water park.

Jones rose to fame after his spectacular performance swimming in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he won the gold medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay with teammates Michael Phelps, Jason Lezak and Garrett Weber-Gale. He also won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics.

“Cullen is not only one of the fastest swimmers in the world, but he is also one of our sport’s greatest ambassadors,” said Jim Gerson, President of Speedo USA. “We are excited to welcome Cullen to the Speedo family and are proud to support him, and his advocacy efforts, both in and out of the pool.”

Splash! La Mirada offers year-round swim lessons for all ages and swimming abilities. Splash! also offer free water safety education presentations each year to local second grade students, teaching the importance of water safety.
