The spring will get off to a foot-tapping start thanks to a full lineup of live musical entertainment set for the Thursday evening “Fullerton Market,” which returns to downtown Fullerton April 5.

Everything from rock to reggae will be featured at the weekly outdoor market, which will be held from 4-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, through Oct. 25, when it will close for the winter.

Kicking off the opening day festivities April 5 will be blues by “The 44s,” featuring Kid Ramos.

The “44s” formed as a band while on the road to the famed Sturgis, South Dakota, motorcycle rally.  Since then, the group’s hard-hitting approach to blues has attracted fans from throughout Southern California.

Since forming as a band, the group has toured with Los Lobos, opened for blues legend B.B. King at the Doheny Blues Festival, and in 2007 took fourth place at the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Band Challenge.

In addition to produce vendors, Fullerton Market will feature a different live band each week, as well as craft booths, a beer and wine garden for adults, and a Kids’ Korner offering special activities to keep children happy while their parents shop.  In addition, the Plaza’s pop jet fountain provides a great cooling-off spot for youngsters who are welcome to wear their swim suits.

Food booths will offer a variety of items, including hot dogs, sausages, tri-tip sandwiches, roasted corn, funnel cakes, Mexican food, Kettle Korn, crepes, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, vegan Jamaican, shaved ice, wood-fired pizza, and gourmet egg rolls.

The Market will also host many special events, such as the popular “Dog Days of Summer” canine talent competition in August, sponsored by the Fullerton Museum Center.

Applications are available for certified local farmers, artisans, food vendors, Fullerton merchants and nonprofit community organizations wishing to operate booths in the market.

Booth applications and further information may be obtained at the Fullerton Museum Center, 301 N. Pomona Ave., or by calling the museum at (714) 738-6545.

Applications may also be obtained from 4-8 p.m. on market days at the information booth.

Parking for the market may be found in any of the free downtown lots, or in the parking structures at Wilshire (enter from Harbor);  Lemon Street and Chapman Avenue;  and in the Transportation Center on Pomona and Santa Fe Avenue.

Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the market are asked to notify Museum staff prior to coming to the market.

Fullerton Market is sponsored by the Fullerton Parks and Recreation Department.

Road closures announced for weekly market

Motorists are reminded that Wilshire Avenue between Harbor Boulevard and Pomona Avenue in Fullerton will be closed to vehicular traffic from 1-10:30 p.m. Thursdays, beginning April 5.

The closure is to allow the City of Fullerton to hold its popular weekly outdoor “Fullerton Market,” featuring farm-fresh produce, imported and handmade crafts and apparel, food booths and live entertainment.

The market, located on Wilshire, between Harbor and Pomona, also features a beer and wine garden for adults and a Kids’ Korner which offers special activities to keep children happy while their parents shop.

During warm weather, the Plaza’s pop jet fountain provides a great cooling-off spot for youngsters who are welcome to wear their swimsuits.

Admission to the market is free.

The market will be open from 4-8:30 p.m. through Oct. 25;  the 1 p.m. start of the closure is to allow the city staff and vendors time to set up booths.

Parking for the market may be found in any of the free downtown lots, or in the parking structures at Wilshire (enter from Harbor);  Lemon Street and Chapman Avenue;  and in the Transportation Center on Pomona and Santa Fe Avenue.
