NO TEXTING WHILE DRIVING: La Mirada Cracking Down on Texting, Driving

HMG-CN Staff Report

As part of the Distracted Driving Awareness Month campaign, the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station is conducting distracted driving enforcement throughout the month of April. In a recent operation conducted in La Mirada on April 3, 23 distracted driving related citations were issued.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, and over 200 other law enforcement agencies across the state are participating in high visibility enforcement operations during April’s National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The enforcement and education campaign is aimed at curbing those who text or operate hand-held cell phones, and similar devices, while driving.

The increased enforcement and education aims to persuade drivers to recognize the dangers of distracted driving and reduce the number of people impacted by this perilous behavior. The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) “It’s Not Worth It!” campaign emphasizes that a phone call or text isn’t worth a hefty fine or a collision.
