The La Mirada Public Safety Team is currently investigating several home burglaries that were reported today in the residential area north of La Mirada Regional Park. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
Please consider the following crime prevention tips to keep the community safe and deter criminal activity:
• Keep all doors, gates and windows locked when you are home and away. This includes sliding glass doors. Do not leave these or any doors or windows unsecured, even to allow your pet to enter and exit the home while you are away. Thieves know this practice and take advantage of it.
• Leave a porch light on from dusk until dawn.
• Install motion-sensor lights on the outside of your home.
• Do not leave your purse, wallet, car keys or valuables visible in your home.
• Do not open your door to strangers or solicitors.
• Plant roses or thorn-like shrubs under windows.
• Keep your valuables, especially large amounts of cash, in a safe deposit box at a bank or a home safe large enough so it can’t be taken out of your home with ease.
• Install an alarm system that is connected directly to an alarm company.
Make sure you keep an eye on your neighbors’ homes and become familiar with their schedules. If you notice unusual vehicles in the driveway during hours your neighbor is away, call your neighbor to inquire if that vehicle is familiar to them. If you see anything suspicious call 911 immediately.
