La Mirada Lamplighter

Mar. 21 – Mar. 27, 2016 La Mirada Crime Summary

La Mirada Sheriff’s Deputies Remain Proactive
Keeping La Mirada one of safest communities in the area is a top priority for the City. An important strategy used by the Public Safety Team involves La Mirada Sheriff’s Deputies targeting illegal drug offenders.

In the month of March, the Special Assignment Officer (SAO) Team arrested ten individuals for possession of methamphetamine or paraphernalia. Often times, arrests for possession of illegal narcotics results in additional crimes including possession of fraudulent credit cards, stolen property, sale and distribution, and outstanding felony warrants.

On March 1 for example, the SAO Team arrested an individual for possession of methamphetamine. The investigation revealed that the suspect was also wanted for a felony auto theft warrant, and had recently been involved in a variety of property crimes including vehicle burglary and fraudulent use of credit cards.

“Taking narcotics offenders off the streets is part of an effective strategy to reduce crime overall,” says Lieutenant Kevin Beggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “Many times, drug offenders turn to property theft and other crimes to pay for their drug habits.”

Arrests made by the SAO Team do not account for number of other drug-related arrests made by La Mirada patrol Deputies during routine stops.
