Hews Media Group-Community News’ website has been hit by hackers in the last two weeks attempting a “distributed denial of service, ” (DDoS) attack, finally forcing the popular website to be shut down today.
A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is an attack in which multiple compromised computer systems attack a siteand cause a denial of service for users of the targeted resource.
The attacks started after HMG-CN exclusively published the story involving cronyism and corruption within the Los Angeles Community College District’s bond procurement bidding process two weeks ago.
HMG-CN has been told that the DDoS attacks are “very sophisticated” and are coming from somewhere in Europe.
Webmasters for HMG-CN are attempting several methods to block the attacks, but after the first attempt and fix, within five minutes after the site was brought back online, the hackers were back attacking the site, forcing webmasters to shut down once again.
