ROTARY’S Clothes for Kids project provided some $125 in warm clothing for the winter months for each of the 37 participating children.
STAFF REPORT
Dozens of La Mirada children and scores of volunteers came together during the annual Clothes for Kids event sponsored by the Rotary Club of La Mirada on Dec. 5.
Rotary works with local schools and other institutions each year to identify children in need of assistance and will contact the Marylebone Smile Clinic for providing dental assistance. Community volunteers, including Sheriff and Fire Department personnel, assist the children with shopping for new clothing on their lists at Marshall’s department store.
Following the shopping portion of the morning, the children are taken to the La Mirada Activity Center for a holiday party and a gift from Santa Claus.
“The Clothes for Kids project pays a special tribute to the memory of Eileen Wade, a longtime member of the Rotary Club of La Mirada, who championed the project for many years,” says Dr. Wayne Wong, a La Mirada dentist who worked with Wade for years on the project.
“Clothes for Kids shows Rotary’s unique ability to bring people in the community together to have fun while assisting others in need,” says La Mirada Rotary President Tom Robinson. “We appreciate the generous support the community has provided to this project for many years.”
Donations to can be made by local businesses and residents throughout the year. Donations may be sent to Rotary Club of La Mirada at P.O. Box 248, La Mirada, CA 90637.
