City of La Mirada remains committed to keeping public safety as its highest priority. During the past year, La Mirada experienced one of the lowest crime rates in Los Angeles County and North Orange County. The City’s low crime rate is attributed to a strong partnership between residents, businesses,and the Public Safety Team, who work together to deter crime.
According to a recent crime analysis of surrounding cities, La Mirada experienced the lowest number of Part 1 crimes in 2018. Part 1 crimes include homicide, rape, larceny, burglary, automobile theft, robbery, assault, and arson. In 2018, there were 921 Part 1 crimes reported in La Mirada compared to 1,011 reported in 2017. This represents an overall decrease of
8.9 percent.
Working together as a community is a key component in keeping La Mirada safe. Last year, the Public Safety Team worked proactively with businesses to reduce crime by expanding the Business Watch Program. Members of the Public Safety Team also attended La Mirada Chamber of Commerce meetings to meet with business owners and establish relationships to help strengthen communication with the business community.
The City will continue to fund programs to deter crime and enhance safety in 2019. The Public Safety Team will continue to analyze crime trends to provide businesses with important crime prevention information.Business Representatives are encouraged to participate in the City’s Business Watch program to learn how to protect themselves and their businesses.
