Northgate González Market opened a new supermarket in La Mirada on Jan. 14, expanding the company’s presence in Southeast Los Angeles County and returning to a city tied to the González family’s early years in the United States.

The new store is located at 12721 Valley View Blvd., on the corner of Valley View and Imperial Highway, and spans approximately 29,800 square feet. According to the company, the location employs 244 associates and offers a full-service grocery format focused on Mexican foods and prepared items.

“For our family, La Mirada will always hold a special place,” said Northgate Market Co-President Oscar González, noting that the city was the family’s first home after immigrating to the U.S.

Inside the store, a custom mural titled “From Our Roots to Home” was painted by La Mirada artist Alysia Ponce. The mural depicts the González family’s journey from Jalostotitlán, Jalisco, to La Mirada and reflects themes of immigration, family, and work.

The opening included a reception attended by local officials. The company announced a donation of more than $20,000 to local schools, including Los Altos Elementary School, Foster Road Elementary School, Gardenhill Elementary School, Hutchinson Middle School, La Mirada High School, and St. Paul of the Cross School.

“La Mirada is proud to welcome Northgate Market and the González family’s investment in our city,” said John Lewis, who represents District 1. Lewis said the store will provide jobs, support local schools, and expand grocery options for residents.

The La Mirada location includes several in-store departments common to Northgate González Market stores, including a tortillería producing tortillas and masa daily, a bakery offering pan dulce and cakes, a full-service meat counter, and a prepared foods kitchen with ready-to-eat Mexican dishes such as empanadas, chile rellenos, guisados, rice, and beans.

Northgate González Market operates multiple locations across California and continues to expand within communities with large Latino populations.
