Bellflower Pursues Thompson Park Lighting Modernization Project

LCCN Staff Report

BELLFLOWER — City officials are moving forward with plans to modernize the lighting system at Thompson Park, seeking qualified firms to design and construct a new energy-efficient LED sports lighting system for the park’s ballfields.

The project calls for the removal of aging lighting infrastructure and installation of new LED fixtures designed to improve visibility, safety and overall field performance while reducing long-term energy and maintenance costs.

Bellflower recently issued a Request for Proposals for the design-build project and will accept submissions through July 30.

A mandatory pre-proposal meeting is scheduled for July 9 at Thompson Park, giving interested firms an opportunity to review the site and project requirements.

City officials said proposals will be evaluated by staff, with the most qualified firms advancing for additional review.

The lighting upgrade is expected to improve conditions for youth sports, recreational leagues and community events held at the park.

Additional information is available through the Bellflower Public Works Department.
