Cerritos City Council Approves Reserved Parking Program for Veterans

The Cerritos City Council has approved a new Veterans Reserved Parking Program that will designate parking spaces at eight City facilities as a tribute to military veterans and their service to the nation.
The program was approved during the Council’s July 27 meeting following a presentation by City staff. Once new signage is installed, two conveniently located parking spaces at each participating facility will be reserved for veterans.
“Our veterans have given so much in service to ensure the freedoms that we all enjoy,” Mayor Lynda Provido Johnson said. “These reserved parking spaces are a simple gesture that carry a big meaning: our community sees you, values you, and thanks you.”
The designated spaces will be located at the Cerritos Civic Center, Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, Cerritos Olympic Swim and Fitness Center/Cerritos Park East, Cerritos Senior Center at Pat Nixon Park, Cerritos Sports Complex, Heritage Park, Iron-Wood Nine Golf Course, and Liberty Park.
City officials said the program is intended to recognize veterans for their service while providing convenient parking at some of Cerritos’ most frequently visited public facilities.
The Veterans Reserved Parking Program will take effect once the reserved parking signs have been installed at the participating locations.
The action follows a growing trend among California cities to recognize veterans through designated parking spaces and other public acknowledgments honoring their military service.
