County offers $20,000 reward in unsolved La Mirada road rage killing

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the 2023 road rage killing of a food delivery driver in La Mirada.
The reward, requested by Supervisor Janice Hahn, is tied to the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Nestor Tlahuel Mendez, who was delivering food the night he was killed.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Mendez was driving westbound on Rosecrans Avenue between Valley View Avenue and Marquardt Avenue, near the La Mirada and Santa Fe Springs border, at about 9:13 p.m. on March 29, 2023, when someone in another vehicle shot him once in the left shoulder.
Mendez later died from his injuries. His 15-year-old cousin, who was riding in the vehicle with him, was not injured.
Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a road rage confrontation.
“Someone took Nestor’s life in a senseless act of road rage,” Hahn said in a statement. “His family will never be made whole again, but we must do everything we can to bring the person responsible to justice.”
Investigators said the suspect was driving an older-model black sedan that was captured by surveillance cameras leaving the area via Alondra Boulevard and Interstate 5 toward Firestone Boulevard.
“That individual is still out there,” Hahn said. “My hope is that this reward encourages anyone with information to come forward so the Sheriff’s Department can finally solve this crime.”
