A Holiday Message from La Mirada Mayor Pauline Deal

La Mirada is excited to celebrate the holiday season. The holidays offer some of the City’s best programs and events to bring our community together. You and your loved ones won’t want to miss taking part in these festive holiday activities.

The Holiday Home Decorating program is officially underway! Many homes are already beautifully decorated, and there’s still time to decorate your home before the December 13 deadline. Top decorated homes in La Mirada will be recognized. We look forward to seeing your creative holiday displays.

Join friends and family at the annual Chili Holiday Celebration on Saturday, December 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Splash!. This event features live entertainment, a tree lighting ceremony, holiday craft making, children’s games and train rides. Be sure to arrive hungry as chili, hot dogs, cookies, hot cider, and cocoa will be served.

While at the Chili Holiday Celebration be sure to participate in the Festival of Trees Silent Auction. The holiday trees are uniquely themed and fully-decorated by local non-profit organizations and businesses. Proceeds from the auction support community programs and events.

Now through December 14, all are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys and nonperishable food items in support of the Holiday Toy and Food Drive. You may drop off your holiday donations at the Activity Center, Resource Center, Community Gymnasium, Community Sheriff’s Station, Splash!, City Hall, and at participating local businesses. This worthwhile program provides gifts and meals to La Mirada families in need this holiday season.

Special mailboxes are placed at City Hall, Splash!, and the Resource Center, for children of all ages to drop off their letters to Santa Claus. Be sure to include a return address on your letter so your child can receive a personalized reply. Letters must be received by December 16 in order to receive a reply.

Celebrate the New Year at Splash! on Friday, January 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. with the Polar Bear Plunge. Bring family and friends to join as you slide down the waterslides in Buccaneer Bay. The heated 25-yard pool will be open and hot chocolate will be served.

Visit the award-winning La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts! “The Magic of Christmas” starring The Young Americans is playing December 11-20. These performers come together to turn the theatre into a winter wonderland and bring holiday cheer to audiences of all ages.

La Mirada has festive fun for everyone this holiday season. On behalf of the City of La Mirada, I wish everyone a joyous holiday season.

Sincerely,

Pauline Deal
La Mirada Mayor
