Woman Taken Into Custody in La Mirada After Standoff

A SWAT team took an armed woman into custody early Tuesday morning after an hourslong standoff ata home in La Mirada, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Few details were immediately available about the incident, which sheriff’s officials said began Monday evening when the woman barricaded herself inside the residence  in the 15200 block of Borda Road.

It was unclear what type of weapon she was allegedly armed with.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Norwalk station responded by the scene, followed by the SWAT team and a K-9 unit, according to a new release.

Neighbors in the area were evacuated from their homes during the standoff.

Members of the SWAT team deployed tear gas before the woman was in custody as of 4 a.m., officials announced on Twitter.

It was unclear if the woman or any deputies were injured.


A woman in her late 40s was taken into custody today
after an almost six-hour standoff with authorities in La Mirada.
   The standoff in the 15200 block of Borda Road began as when deputies
responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon around 10 p.m. Monday,
said Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. L. Auner said.
   The suspect was taken from the residence around 3:45 a.m. without
incident, Auner said.
   It was not known what weapon the suspect had, Auner said.
