La Mirada ‘Get Ready to ShakeOut’ on October 16

Each year, the City of La Mirada brings together businesses, residents, and community organizations to engage in disaster preparedness. This year, the La Mirada Community Disaster Exercise will be held on October 16 in conjunction with the statewide earthquake awareness campaign The Great California ShakeOut.

The City will partner with first responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the American Red Cross to respond to a mass casualty scenario at Biola University. The scenario will involve search, rescue, and triage efforts by first responders and volunteers at a facility on the Biola campus.

The annual Exercise is designed to encourage the entire community to practice their emergency plans and prepare themselves for the next ‘Big One’.

Preparing for a disaster can start with three important steps:

• Get an emergency supply kit.
• Make a plan for what to do in an emergency.
• Be informed about emergencies that could happen in your community, and identify sources of information in your community that will be helpful before, during and after an emergency.
