THIS IS BREAKING NEWS IN SANTA FE SPRINGS

A violent two car crash in Santa Fe Springs on Friday night has taken the lives of two boys just four days before the Christmas holiday.

The two boys, ages 11 and 13 were killed after a violent collision took place at 5:53 p.m. at Los Nietos Road and John Street in an industrial section of Santa Fe Springs.

Law enforcement converged on the scene, and an investigation was immediately launched.

Police at the site said they do not think street racing caused the crash, but according to witnesses interviewed by local media outlets claim that the two vehicles involved were driving side by side at a high rate of speed before the crash took place.

One of the cars in the crash was a Honda Civic that was literally destroyed with the entire back-end of the car ripped off in the violent crash that landed several yards from the impact area.

Whittier Police Department closed several streets around Los Nietos Rd and Norwalk Boulevard.

Officers discovered one 11-year-old male victim, apparently ejected from the car, in the middle of the roadway; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front portion of the vehicle contained a second victim–a 13-year-old male–who was also pronounced dead at the scene in the front passenger seat. The 33-year-old male driver sustained significant injuries and was transported to a local trauma center where he is in stable condition. The critically injured driver is reportedly the father of the two victims.

The preliminary investigation, based on witness statements, is pointing to a second vehicle that may have cut the victim vehicle off as they were both traveling eastbound Los Nietos Rd.

Whittier Police Department officials said in a statement that “the driver and witnesses are saying this is what caused the victim vehicle to lose control into the power pole. That suspect vehicle continued eastbound Los Nietos Road and did not stop. At this time there is very little information on the second involved vehicle.”

As soon as the names of the two boys who died in the crash are released to the media, Hews Media Group will provide that information to the community.
