Homeless Man Set On Fire In Norwalk Back In December Dies From Injuries

An adult homeless man from Norwalk who was set on fire while occupying a sleeping bag back in December, has died from his injuries, Los Cerritos Community Newspaper can confirm.

Barton Pierce, a well-known resident of Norwalk suffered second and third degree burns over 70 percent of his body during the attack that took place a week before Christmas in 2012.

Norwalk Sheriff’s Captain Patrick Maxwell confirmed to LCCN that Pierce had died via an email on Friday afternoon.

Members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Division were expected to release additional details about the case later today.

Pierce was well-known in Norwalk and he had lived on the streets around the community for years for at least the past decade, if not longer.  LCCN reported in December that Pierce was set on fire while he was apparently sleeping at a location near the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Office Headquarters off of Firestone Boulevard and Pioneer Boulevard on Union Street.
