City Watch: LM Residents Engage Deputies in Discussion on Crime

Lamplighter Staff Report

In response to growing concerns with residential burglaries in the area of Neff Park, a Neighborhood Watch meeting was held on April 18. Nearly 20 residents attended to voice their concerns regarding crime in their community with members of the Public Safety Team and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

In addition to hearing about crime trends and prevention tips, those in attendance participated in a discussion with members of the Public Safety Team and the Sheriff’s Department. A variety of questions related to public safety concerns were asked by neighbors in attendance, including how to approach suspicious persons in the neighborhood and best practices for working with the Sheriff’s Department.
“The partnership between the community and our Public Safety Team is only effective if there is dialogue,” explains Lt. Patrick Valdez of the Sheriff’s Department. “Reaching out and responding to the important questions and concerns our residents have when it comes to crime in La Mirada is essential to ensuring this partnership continues.”

Residents in attendance were grateful for the opportunity to engage one on one with members of their Public Safety Team and expressed interest in starting up a Neighborhood Watch in their community.
