Preventing home fires
Did you know that home fires are the leading cause of disaster-related death in the Unites States? According to the American Red Cross and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), cooking is the leading cause of home fires.
A home fire can strike anytime. Fires can leave families without their homes and even result in serious injury or death. According to the NFPA, a fire-related injury occurs every 40 minutes.
The American Red Cross is partnering with local communities like La Mirada to promote the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign. The campaign is intended to reduce injuries and deaths caused by home fires through educating families on fire prevention strategies.
Your home may be full of fire hazards that you aren’t aware of. Kitchen stoves, candles, festive holiday lights, and many other common household items can turn dangerous very quickly. Check out the American Red Cross Home Fire Safety checklist to help you protect your family and your home from a fire.
