The 22nd Annual Downey Street Faire will be held Saturday, April 11th, 2015 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Last year the faire had over 200 Crafters, businesses, non-profits, beer garden, a kid zone and live entertainment.
Downey boasts that the annual event brings everyone together in Downey. Last year vendors, antique vehicles and family-friendly entertainment made Brookshire Avenue the place to be, attracting thousands of residents and visitors. The fair will once again be located on Brookshire Avenue outside Downey High School. Admission and parking are free.
Food vendors will be selling different varieties of food and drink, including pulled pork sandwiches, empanadas, Navajo fried tacos, sweet potato pies, pizza, kettle corn, barbecue chicken, Cuban pastries, funnel cakes, fresh-squeezed lemonade and more.
Children can enjoy a kids’ area in Downey High’s south parking lot, featuring an obstacle course, inflatable jumpers and a 40-ft. tall, 100-ft. long slide. More than 300 classic cars from the Old Memories SGV Car Club will be judged in a car show featuring vehicles from as far back as the 1920s. The show, held in the school parking lot, will also include custom motorcycles and pedal bikes.
The Street Faire is a great opportunity for residents to come out and interact with some of the local business owners, enjoy great food and entertainment. Vendors will be selling everything from stuffed animals, kids toys, jewelry, purses, sunglasses, popcorn, candy and just about every kind or faire food that you could think of.
Many churches and local businesses from neighboring cities will have booths with goodies and games. GOOD (Gangs Out Of Downey), Downey Adult School, the Downey Fire Union and the Downey Police Department will be speaking with residents and passing out information.
“The Street Faire continues to be one of our favorite events throughout the city. We give the Chamber of Commerce big congratulations for hosting it, and to the 10,000 people from our community who came out to enjoy the faire last year. The Street Faire had something for everyone and it continues to show what a great place our city is, we look forward to it every year,” said former Mayor and Councilman Mario Guerra.
Downey Chamber of Commerce Street Faire sells out of vendor space each year and has a waiting list. With the fair being in its 22nd year, the committee takes great care with their organization and follow through. By mid morning Brookshire Avenue is filled with thousands of locals and all that attend have a great time.
The Chamber of Commerce is still accepting vendor spots $145, food vendors $ 175, and food trucks $225. Sponsorships are also available, with six different levels: Platinum Sponsor – $ 3000; Diamond Sponsor – $ 2000; Gold Sponsor – $ 1500; Silver Sponsor – $ 1000; Media Sponsor – $ 500 and Be a Friend of the Street Faire – $ 100.
