Rotarians Contribute to Friends of La Mirada Library

The Rotary Club of La Mirada is donating $300 to the Friends of the Library to support the vital role the volunteer group plays in supporting educational and cultural resources provided by the La Mirada Public Library.

A $150 donation gives the Rotary Club of La Mirada Lifetime Member status in the Friends organization. The Rotary name will be included on the Friends’ Lifetime Member display, and another $150 donation will be made as a commemorate gift in memory of longtime Rotarian Eileen Wade, who championed Rotary’s “Clothes for Kids” shopping event for many years.

“Rotary supports many types of educational and cultural programs benefiting the La Mirada community,” says Rotary President Russell Hall. “Rotary is pleased to support the volunteers of the Friends of the Library as they advance Library services and facilities for patrons of all ages throughout the year.”

The mission of the Friends of the Library is to support the La Mirada Library in order to help it grow and thrive through the 21st century.

Friends of the La Mirada Public Library hold semi-annual books sales featuring an array of pre-owned reading, audio and video materials. All proceeds are used to augment resources and services of the La Mirada Public Library.

Meetings of the Friends of the Library are held on the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm in the library meeting room off the front lobby. Visitors are welcome.

Annual membership dues are $10, and Lifetime memberships cost $150. Lifetime membership donors’ names are engraved on a Friends of the Library plaque displayed in the lobby. For further information contact: [email protected] or La Mirada Library at 562-943-0277.

La Mirada Library was established in 1915 in a one-room schoolhouse that belonged to the Norwalk School District. It soon received supplemental service from the Los Angeles County Library.

From 1958 to 1971 the library was housed in a leased storefront in the La Mirada Business Center. The present library building was dedicated in the La Mirada Civic Center on July 1, 1971. Discussions are currently underway between the County and the City of La Mirada regarding future remodeling of the Library to better meet the needs of the public.
