A Message from La Mirada Mayor Ed Eng: CELEBRATE THE SUMMER IN LA MIRADA

La Mirada Mayor Ed Eng

June 9, 2022 ~ Together again! After a two-year hiatus, I like to welcome you to a full summer of exciting events and activities the City has planned for our community.

Hurry! Grab your lawn chairs, put on your dancing shoes, and bring your appetite as our Concerts Under the Stars series begins on Thursday, June 16 at La Mirada Regional Park from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The concert series will feature nine bands of various genres including Latin, 80’s hits, and many other tribute bands. Night Market vendors will be selling a variety of delicious foods beginning at 5 p.m. and live entertainment will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Yes, it is back! The moment you’ve been waiting for! The highly anticipated Independence Day Celebration event returns Sunday, July 3 at La Mirada Regional Park. Join us for live music from Dance Dance Evolution and The Kelley Boyz as we celebrate our nation’s independence. Local service organizations will also be selling food and special treats beginning at 4 p.m. The celebration will conclude with a patriotic program and a riveting fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Mark your calendar, this year’s Stroll in the Park event will be held on Thursday, July 28 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Creek Park. Come choose from your favorite trio of bands, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and rekindle old friendships. The Night Market vendors will be selling food beginning at 5 p.m.

La Mirada continues to be one of the safest cities in California. Come meet our Public Safety Team and Sheriff partners as we celebrate National Night Out on Thursday, August 4 at La Mirada Regional Park.  As crimes have skyrocketed across Los Angeles County, I am so proud of our City staff, law enforcement personnel, and residents working together to keep crimes consistently low in our community.

From music and fireworks to Splash!, Buccaneer Bay is now open daily! Experience the pirate-themed water park through Friday, August 5 and weekends through Sunday, September 25. Enjoy the waterpark’s six-lane mat-rider slide or grab an inner tube and relax in the lazy river. Don’t forget to purchase a season pass and beat the heat at Buccaneer Bay all summer long!

The Swim-in Movies return this summer and will feature two Disney hits, “Cars” on Sunday, July 31 and “Encanto” on Sunday, August 28. Come share a memorable cinematic experience on a large outdoor screen, as you chill in the heated 25-yard pool or relax on the pool deck. Admission is $9.00 per person and concessions will be available during the movies.

Summer Day Camp alert! The popular Summer Day Camp program is back at Neff Park through August 5! Day Camp offers many fun activities including weekly excursions and trips to Splash! Also, take part in our drop-in program, Ready, Set, Summer!, at Frontier, Gardenhill and Windermere Parks Monday through Friday from 12 to 4 p.m. Our energetic recreation staff will be on-site to provide fun games, crafts and other activities throughout the summer.

Finally, in July, La Mirada and cities across the nation will be celebrating Parks and Recreation Month. A variety of special events and activities are planned in our community including a Family Game Night, “Picnic & Popsicles” at local parks, Splash! Family Friday Night, and a senior favorite “All that Dance.”

Please visit our website at cityoflamirada.org for more information on all of these wonderful events.

I am so Grateful for our incredible city and the amazing people in our community. On behalf of La Mirada, I wish you a safe, fun, and exciting summer.

Warmly,

Ed Eng, La Mirada Mayor
