The La Mirada Community Foundation awarded scholarships to seven graduating high school seniors residing in La Mirada who plan to continue their education. The students were selected based on outstanding academic achievements and involvement in the community.
Since 2005, the Community Foundation has awarded $93,750 in scholarships to 104 graduating seniors. The Community Foundation offered the Bob Jenkins Community Service Scholarship, which is available to students who have provided significant community service, reside in La Mirada, and have applied to an accredited college.
The Bob Jenkins Scholarship was named in memory of the dedicated community volunteer and President of the La Mirada Community Foundation.
Prior to his death in 2010, Bob was still president of the La Mirada Community Services Foundation, he had been chairman of the “4 La Mirada Kids” Community Carnival, member of “Splash!” that raised funds toward the now-famous La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center, and a leader of the Independence Celebration and the Beatitudes of Our Lord Festival.
