GARDEN GROVE — A proposed $277 million Nickelodeon-themed resort hotel is moving closer to becoming reality in Garden Grove, marking what city leaders hope will be another major step in transforming Harbor Boulevard into one of Southern California’s premier family tourism corridors.

The Garden Grove Planning Commission recently recommended approval of the project following completion of a court-ordered Supplemental Environmental Impact Report. The proposal now heads to the Garden Grove City Council for final consideration.

If ultimately approved, the development would become the first full-scale Nickelodeon-themed hotel in the United States and add another nationally recognized attraction just minutes from Disneyland, the Anaheim Convention Center, Honda Center and Angel Stadium.

The resort would be built on a 3.72-acre site along Harbor Boulevard near Twintree Avenue, adjacent to Garden Grove’s existing resort district.

Unlike a traditional hotel, the Nickelodeon Resort is designed as a destination attraction where families can immerse themselves in the world of the iconic children’s entertainment brand.

Plans call for 500 guest rooms, a themed pool complex featuring waterslides and a lazy river, a 600-seat Nickelodeon theater, interactive children’s play areas, an arcade, multiple restaurants, retail shops, meeting and ballroom facilities, a spa, fitness center and a five-level parking structure.

The signature hotel tower would rise approximately 330 feet, making it one of the tallest buildings in Garden Grove and creating a dramatic new landmark along Harbor Boulevard.

Beyond its tourism appeal, the project is expected to deliver a significant economic boost to the region.

Construction is planned under a Project Labor Agreement, meaning the resort would be built primarily by skilled union tradespeople. Supporters say the agreement will create hundreds of high-paying construction jobs, provide apprenticeship opportunities and ensure the project is completed using a highly trained workforce.

Once completed, the resort is expected to employ hundreds more workers in hotel operations, restaurants, entertainment, maintenance and guest services.

City officials also anticipate millions of dollars in annual hotel occupancy, sales and property tax revenue, strengthening Garden Grove’s financial position while supporting additional investments in city services and infrastructure.

The Nickelodeon Resort represents another milestone in Garden Grove’s decades-long effort to establish Harbor Boulevard as more than simply the road visitors travel on their way to Disneyland.

That vision began taking shape with the arrival of Great Wolf Lodge Southern California, which demonstrated that families were willing to stay in Garden Grove while enjoying Orange County’s world-famous attractions.

Adding the Nickelodeon Resort would further expand the city’s growing collection of destination properties and provide visitors with another reason to spend additional days—and tourism dollars—within Garden Grove rather than simply passing through.

The environmental review determined that while certain greenhouse gas impacts remain significant under California environmental law, mitigation measures addressing transportation improvements, pedestrian access and electric vehicle infrastructure would reduce many of the project’s environmental impacts.

If the City Council grants final approval, the project would move into the permitting phase before construction begins.

For Garden Grove, the Nickelodeon Resort is about much more than another hotel.

It is a bold investment in the city’s future, an opportunity to capture a larger share of Orange County’s multibillion-dollar tourism economy, and another step toward transforming Harbor Boulevard into a destination that stands alongside, rather than simply next to, the Disneyland Resort.
