Veteran LASD officer Omar Camacho returns to the station where he previously served for nine years.

LA MIRADA — Capt. Omar Camacho has been named the new commander of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Norwalk Station, bringing a 26-year law enforcement career — and considerable familiarity with the area — to the position.
Camacho was promoted to captain in May and assigned to lead Norwalk Station, which provides law enforcement services to La Mirada, Norwalk and surrounding unincorporated communities.
For Camacho, the assignment is also a homecoming.
Earlier in his career, he spent nine years at Norwalk Station, serving as a patrol deputy and as a member of the Norwalk Enforcement Team.
Camacho began his Sheriff’s Department career in 2000 after graduating from the Sheriff’s Training Academy. His first assignment was at Century Regional Detention Facility before he transferred to Norwalk Station.
He later served at the department’s Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau and continued moving through the department’s ranks.
Camacho was promoted to sergeant in 2015 and lieutenant in 2020. His assignments have included Century Station, the Narcotics Bureau and Lakewood Station.
His connections to the area extend beyond his years at Norwalk Station.
Camacho attended Cerritos College before earning a bachelor’s degree in occupational studies from California State University, Long Beach. He later earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership from National University.
The La Mirada City Council formally welcomed Camacho during its Aug. 11 meeting, recognizing the new captain and presenting him with two tickets to the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
As captain, Camacho will oversee deputies and personnel at Norwalk Station and law enforcement services provided to the communities within its jurisdiction.
His return puts a veteran commander already familiar with the communities and neighborhoods served by Norwalk Station at the helm of the local Sheriff’s Department operation.
