LA MIRADA — One person was killed in a late-night apartment fire in La Mirada Sunday, prompting an investigation by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide detectives.
The fire was reported at approximately 11:09 p.m. in the 12600 block of Oxford Drive, south of Imperial Highway.
Los Angeles County Fire Department crews arrived at the two-story apartment building and found smoke coming from the front door of one of the units.
Firefighters removed one person from the apartment at approximately 11:26 p.m. The fire was extinguished by 11:33 p.m., about 24 minutes after it was first reported.
Fire officials confirmed one person died, but authorities have not released the victim’s name or other identifying information.
The circumstances surrounding the person’s death remain under investigation. Authorities have not said whether the death was accidental or whether foul play is suspected.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau were sent to the scene, and arson investigators were also investigating the fire.
No additional information about the cause of the fire or the extent of damage to the apartment building was immediately available.
The investigation is ongoing.
