A man claiming to be with al-Qaeda called in a bomb threat Friday morning to the Univerrsity of Texas in Austin, prompting a campus evacuation.
University of Texas director of communications Rhonda Weldon said the caller claimed he had placed bombs all over the campus that would go off in 90 minutes. Officials said no bombs have been found.
The call came in at 8:35 a.m. CT. All campus buildings were cleared out by 9:50 a.m. CT as a precaution.
An alert posted on the school’s website called for an immediate evacuation of all buildings, ordering people to get as far away as possible.
North Dakota State University ordered a campus evacuation Friday morning after also receiving a bomb threat.An alert was issued shortly before 10 a.m. local time, telling students and employees to leave campus within a half-hour. Details were not immediately released.
It is not known if the two situations are connected.
