Ginger Shattuck Returns as Interim Superintendent at NLMUSD

By Randy Economy

Ginger Shattuck, a former employee and superintendent of schools for the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District for almost 50 years, will be returning on a temporary basis to fill in as Interim Superintendent after current Superintendent Ruth Perez announced two weeks ago that she would be taking a new key position at the LA Unified School District.

Shattuck retired from the district back in 2009 after serving 47 years as a teacher, administrator and eventually as the top leader of the local school system.

Hews Media Group-Community Newspaper broke the details of Perez new job with LAUSD just hours after she agreed to take the number two position with the nation’s second largest public school system.

Perez told HMG-CN that she would directly oversee instruction for more than 650,000 students.

“I got an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Perez said.  “This is literally a dream come true, and I am beyond honored and blessed to have this new chapter open up to me,” Perez said.  “This is a wonderful new life opportunity.”

In her new role, Perez will report directly to LAUSD Superintendent Dr. John Deasy.

Perez’s last day was this past Thursday.

Shattuck begins on Monday and will reportedly be paid $800 per week.

It could take the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board of Education several months to find a replacement for Perez.  A nationwide search is expected to take place.
