La Mirada City Council Recognizes Sheriff’s Deputy

The La Mirada City Council recently recognized Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Shawn Barnes for his exemplary leadership skills and efforts to enhance safety on La Mirada school campuses.

Deputy Barnes joined La Mirada as member of the Special Assignment Officers (SAO) Team in 2006. He has served as a School Resource Officer since 2007. Deputy Barnes was recently promoted to the position of Sergeant in the Custody Division.

As a School Resource Officer, Deputy Barnes worked cooperatively with school administrators and teachers to keep La Mirada’s schools safe. His responsibilities included school security, responding to and investigating juvenile crimes, and handling requests for special enforcement on campuses. Deputy Barnes was responsible for preparing and implementing the annual emergency school response plans. He has also spoken about law enforcement issues involving juvenile crime to students, adults, and community groups.
