The first “Love La Mirada” day of service event was held on April 30. Over 260 volunteers assisted with 19 service projects throughout La Mirada.

Projects included painting and cleaning up local parks, making improvements at schools, writing letters to veterans, visiting with seniors, and other creative ways to serve. Sites included Neff Park, Frontier Park, Creek Park, Gardenhill Park, Windermere Park, Dulles Elementary School, Mirada Hills Convalescent Home, and Granada Heights Friends Church.

Volunteers finished their projects around noon and teams returned to the First Church of the Nazarene for lunch and a time of celebration with music, a bounce house, and a time to share stories from the day.

Inspired by the Love Our Cities movement started in Modesto, California, Love La Mirada began with the support of a dozen local church leaders who decided to partner with La Mirada organizations, businesses and residents for the benefit of the community.
