In honor of Arbor Day, the La Mirada Youth Council planted a tree at Neff Park. The planting took place as part of the Love La Mirada service day event on April 30.
The La Mirada Youth Council brings together young people from public and private La Mirada middle and high schools to provide input on issues affecting local youths. The group includes one student from each grade level at La Mirada High School and one from each of the middle and private schools. There are also four at-large members.
Youth Council members serve a one-year term, beginning and ending in October, and members meet on the last Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the La Mirada Resource Center.
Responsibilities include studying, reporting, and making recommendations on the planning, development and maintenance of parks and City facilities. They also assist with the coordination and development of recreational activities, the planning of recreation programs, and the evaluation of youth programs, facilities, and community needs.
Current projects Youth Council is working on include the second annual Father and Son campout and assisting the City with its social media efforts.
Those interested in joining La Mirada Youth Council may contact the City’s Community Services Department at (562) 943-7277.
