The summer months are a favorite time of year for many. The weather is warm, and there is much to do with family and friends. Summertime in La Mirada is full of fun events, plentiful outdoor activities, and recreational opportunities. Whether you spend your days splashing around Buccaneer Bay, taking a new class at the Activity Center, enjoying the music at Summer Concerts, or signing your child up for a day camp, La Mirada offers family-friendly activities for all. You won’t want to miss the following summer events.
Splash! Beat the summer heat at Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center throughout the summer. In addition to two swimming pools and an adult spa, Splash! offers Buccaneer Bay waterpark which features waterslides, spray pad zones, and a lazy river. Swim lessons, water exercise classes, family fun nights, and swim-in movies are also offered.
Concerts Under the Stars Live entertainment returns beginning July 14 with the Concerts Under the Stars series at La Mirada Regional Park. This year’s lineup features a great mix of musical styles, including classic rock, dance hits, country, and more. Concerts are held every Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m., July 14 through August 25.
Stroll in the Park The popular Stroll in the Park event will be held at Creek Park on Thursday, July 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in place of the Concerts Under the Stars. With three live performances by Kulayd, Upstream, and The Shane Henry Band, sponsored by Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, this event is a great way to spend a relaxing summer evening. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a nice stroll through Creek Park.
National Night Out This event is held in conjunction with the Concert on August 4, at 6:30 p.m. National Night Out brings residents and law enforcement together to take a stand against crime. I encourage all to attend and learn how to help keep La Mirada safe.
Summer Day Camp Register your children for fun-filled Summer Day Camps! Each week of camp includes one excursion along with crafts, games, and water activities. Camps are held Monday through Friday at Neff Park beginning June 20.
Safe Kids Safety Training This valuable training teaches children basic first aid skills, hands-only CPR, steps to take in emergencies, and more. The program is free to children ages 7 to 13 and takes place on Wednesday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the La Mirada Resource Center.
A variety of recreation classes and programs are offered year-round at the Activity Center, Resource Center, and City parks. For more information on summer activities, call (562) 943-7277.
Also, if you are planning to go out of town, don’t forget to sign up with Public Safety for a free vacation security check. The Public Safety Team will include your home in regular patrols and check for suspicious activity while you’re away.
Now is the perfect time of year to spend time with your family and friends and take advantage of the many fun programs and events offered by the City of La Mirada. On behalf of the La Mirada City Council, I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer.
Sincerely,
Steve De Ruse
Mayor of La Mirada
