Anthony Otero
Anthony Otero, a 23 year law enforcement veteran and La Mirada Boy Scout Troop 438 Scoutmaster officially announced his bid for the seat in Council District No. 5 today.
Running on a platform focused on public safety, fiscal responsibility, and economic prosperity, Otero’s campaign officially announced his candidacy with the publishing of his website, www.otero4lamirada.com, where he makes his positions known, and reveals some valued insight to his views and priorities.
“No community can thrive, if they do not feel safe in their own neighborhoods,” Otero said to a group gathered last week at a church gathering.
Otero, 47, has worked in law enforcement for 23 years where he serves as a police lieutenant. With a doctorate from USC in policy, planning, and development, Otero brings vast experience with issues related to public safety and public policy.
At home in La Mirada with his wife of 18 years, a criminal prosecutor, with whom he has two children in high school, and one in junior high, the candidate is committed to youth development and programming.
“There is no greater obligation of any community than to the development of our youth,” Otero said. “Commitment to youth programs within the City of La Mirada is one fundamental way that we, as a community, can contribute to the development of our youth,” Otero said.
Otero believes that a value based leadership brings clarity to ambiguous situations and serves as a beacon to continually do what is right, even when that runs contrary to personal interests.
“My family and I moved to La Mirada approximately thirteen years ago. We found that our neighborhood, located in Council District 5, was and continues to be a place that we can raise a family in a safe and community based environment. Keeping any community safe and moving in the right direction takes a devout dedication to value based leadership,” Otero said.
