LA MIRADA — Break out the signs, grab the lawn chairs and get ready to make some noise — La Mirada is throwing a hometown celebration for its world champions.
The La Mirada Little League Junior All-Stars, fresh off their remarkable run to the Junior League Baseball World Series championship, will be honored with a parade and community celebration Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. at Behringer Park, where the champions will start their victory parade before traveling along Alicante Road to La Mirada Boulevard and on to City Hall.
Residents are being encouraged to line the parade route, bring signs and cheer for the players and coaches as they make their way through the city.
And La Mirada should have plenty to cheer about.
The team capped an unforgettable postseason by winning the Junior League World Series, bringing the championship home to La Mirada and giving the community another reason to proudly call itself a baseball town.
After the parade, the celebration moves to the Civic Center, where the team will be introduced at 6 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m., the players and coaches will receive official recognition during the La Mirada City Council meeting.
The parade will give the community a chance to celebrate the players who spent their summer battling through tournament after tournament before reaching the biggest stage in Junior League baseball — and coming home as world champions.
So on Tuesday evening, Alicante Road won’t just be another street through La Mirada.
It’ll be a championship parade route.
And the kids riding down it earned every cheer they get.
