CHAMPS: The La Mirada High varsity girls soccer team celebrate a historic victory March 6 after clinching its first uncontested CIF Championship title.

La Mirada High School’s girls varsity team celebrated a historic victory – its first first-ever uncontested CIF Southern Section Division 4 championship.

La Mirada High dominated the CIF tournament, winning five straight games with a combined score of 19-0, culminating with a 3-0 shutout of Moorpark High on March 6.

La Mirada High’s winning streak continued through the CIF Division II State Regional semifinals, finally ending one win short of an additional title after falling to La Costa Canyon High School in an overtime shootout March 12.

“I congratulate the players and coaching staff of the La Mirada High girls soccer team,” said Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District (NLMUSD) Interim Superintendent Ginger Shattuck. “At the District, we strive for dedication and teamwork – two hallmarks of success. At La Mirada, these athletes have set an example we can all be proud of.”

La Mirada High’s success, both on and off the field, has not gone unnoticed.

In February, five players signed letters of intent to play collegiately next fall: midfielder and Captain Maxine Langenberg – Cal State Bakersfield; forward Aubrey Baran – Whittier College; midfielders Devin Gooch and Nicole Waters – Vanguard College (Costa Mesa); and forward Tia Sanford – Indiana Wesleyan.

The school attributes its success to a rigorous training program, outstanding student-athletes and well-rounded education program that prepares students for college and career.
